The so-called “Mogila” tumulus (T 6) was researched by Gy. Kisléghi Nagy in 1904, in the presence of
A. Török. The barrow was situated “600 m left of the Óbesenyő – Balkány railway”, and it had a 19 m circumference
and a 7 m height. The barrow was researched through five sections, on the inside
being found six deceased, who were inhumed in different areas.
In S1a the skeleton of a young woman was found (G 1).
In S 2 b a young skeleton (G 2) with one blue glass beads was found.
In S3 d a skeleton laid on its back, with the arms on the shoulders (the skeleton was fully preserved)
was found; the skeleton was oriented west-east (G 3). Next to it, an iron knife blade was recorded,
made out of four fragments (L = 14.7 cm).
In S3 d a grave oriented west-east, without inventory was found (G 4).
In S5 d section provided a small jug with handle. No mention is made regarding the presence of
human bones.
One cannot tell precisely if these discoveries represent funerary features from the Sarmatian period.
A single grave discovered in the barrow seems to come from this period |
